Methodologies for assessing the quality of 3D models obtained using close-range photogrammetry

Abstract Although reality-based models are widely used to describe the geometric surfaces of an entity in a digital space, systematic and universally recognised treatment issues such as accuracy is lacking. The topic certainly complex this analysis should involve not only shape approximation but also other attributes (e.g., colour). Wanting limit ourselves geometry alone, work proposes solutions for assessing quality photogrammetric models, differentiating them according possible scenarios: sometimes, homologous obtained using different techniques technologies available. In these cases, comparison between reconstructions can serve effectively quantify accuracy; more often, no terms available, one forced derive indicators from same process quality. We propose scenario statistical on covariance matrix estimated coordinates tie points. main goal provide range approaches conscious management survey data.
